Community Outreach

Breast Cancer is a fatal disease and women of all ages/social groups are at risk of developing it. To cover all demographic and geographic areas Pink Ribbon is running a Community Outreach Programme at a mass scale.

Pink Ribbon strategically takes advantage of already established women groups, and community-based organisations to increase its outreach. We carry out workshops and community-based awareness drives regularly to expand the outreach to the far-flung areas and get the message across. We have empowered over 18 million women with life-saving techniques of early detection so far.

There are 100,000 Lady Health Workers (LHWs) working in almost every part of Pakistan and providing primary healthcare facilities to the community. One LHW is responsible for 1,000 houses, with direct access to the urban and rural communities. They are best suited for breast cancer awareness at the grass-root level.

Because of our efforts, a chapter about breast self-examination has been added into the training manual of the LHWs.
Apart from educating women regarding breast cancer they diagnose the disease and refer new cases to tertiary care hospitals at an early stage.
